What’s in a public name? A lot

Dear Straits Times,

I refer to the 10 Mar 2011 letter by Mr Andy Lim.

Singapore was founded in 1819, long before Dr Goh Keng Swee was born. As such, it does not seem appropriate to refer to Dr Goh as one of Singapore’s founding fathers.

In addition, Dr Goh’s primary contributions were defence and economy, not healthcare. As such, naming a hospital after Dr Goh does not seem appropriate.
