Govt will work with whoever’s elected: PM

Dear PM Lee,

I refer to the 17 Aug 2011 Straits Times article: “Govt will work with whoever’s elected: PM”.

You said the president must in all areas other than those five where he wields veto powers, act in accordance with the advice of the cabinet. Those other areas can only refer to the other duties of the president where he does not wield veto powers. Those other areas cannot refer to anything and everything else under the sky. Must the president seek cabinet advice on when to wake up a night to pee? Must the president seek cabinet advice on when to jog in public? Must the president seek advice on what to say to foreign dignitaries? Can you imagine a press conference between President Nathan and President Obama and every question President Obama asks, our president says “wait ah, let me ask my cabinet first”. Please don’t make a mockery of our president. Our president is neither the government’s parrot nor dog.
